I wake up every morning seeing too many people struggle so hard to be someone that they are not . A young girl is trying to make her hair like a celebrity, talk like a celebrity, move and live like a celebrity forgetting the fact that everyone was created differently with his/her own uniqueness.
It personally makes me sad because no man who hide in the shadows of another man ever makes it to the top. One of the instrumental keys to getting it right in whatever endeavour is the dare to be an original. When you dare to be an original you are in essence daring to be “yourself” and everything that encompasses who you really are. To many of us, that can be a scary and daunting proposition.
And why is that?
Because it means putting ourselves on the line. It means subjecting ourselves to scrutiny, judgment and possible ridicule. It means exposure and vulnerability.
Certainly there is more comfort to be found in conformity, lying low, and blending in with the crowd. There is also boredom, complacency, and the prospect of never living to your potential .
It takes courage and self-confidence to dare to be an original – to reveal your uniqueness and to show that you’re one of a kind.
However, as with any frightening endeavor, the rewards of overcoming obstacles and prevailing far outweighs the consequences of not venturing forth.
As the late Steve Jobs noted in his speech at a Stanford University graduation commencement:
“Your time is limited; so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
Nobody also talks about daring to be anoriginal without mentioning SELF DISCIPLINE. A renowned speaker called self-discipline the foundation of success. No personal success, achievement, or goal, can be realized without self-discipline. It is singularly the most important attribute needed to achieve any type of personal excellence, athletic excellence, virtuosity in the arts , or otherwise outstanding performance.
Certainly, being disciplined and daring to be an original does not mean living a limiting or a restrictive lifestyle. Nor, does not mean giving up everything you enjoy, or, to relinquish fun and relaxation. It does mean learning how to focus your mind and energies on your goals and persevere until they are accomplished. It also means cultivating a mindset whereby you are ruled by your deliberate choices rather than by your emotions, bad habits, or the sway of others.
Daring to be an Original allows you to reach your goals in a reasonable time frame and to live a more orderly and satisfying life. As you set out today , try to see yourself for you are. Never ever forget to Love Yourself . You are the best of your kind .
